Christian Meditation for Beginners

Christian Meditation for Beginners

Christian meditation can sound mysterious, but it is a simple practice: slowing down with Scripture so God's Word has room to settle in your heart.

It is not about performing stillness perfectly. It is not about emptying yourself into nothing. It is about giving your attention to God.

Begin With a Short Verse

Choose a verse that can be read slowly:

"Be still, and know that I am God." — Psalm 46:10

Read it once. Pause. Read it again. Notice which word holds your attention.

Let the Verse Become Prayer

If the word "still" stands out, pray:

God, teach me to be still with you.

If the word "know" stands out, pray:

Help me know your presence beyond what I feel right now.

Meditation becomes prayer when you respond honestly.

Keep It Short

Start with two minutes. That may feel almost too small, but small beginnings are easier to repeat.

You can grow the practice later. First, learn to return.

Expect Distraction

Distraction does not mean you failed. When your mind wanders, gently return to the verse.

This returning is part of the practice.

Continue in Daily Selah

Begin with Scripture meditation, or write a short response in the prayer journal.
